my 10-day Langtang valley pilgrimage and the secret to happiness

Nestled amidst the towering peaks of the Himalayas lies Nepal, a land steeped in mystery and allure. As an international photographer, my travels have taken me to numerous corners of the globe, but few places have captivated my soul, like Nepal.

My recent 10-day pilgrimage along the Langtang Valley, culminating in the ascent of two magnificent 5000-meter peaks - Kyanjin Ri and Tserko Ri - is a testament to the power of nature and the human spirit.

the langtang valley

The Langtang Valley, often called the "Valley of Glaciers," is a haven of tranquillity and natural beauty. My journey commenced in this serene valley, an area that epitomises the unspoiled charm of Nepal. With each step, the rugged trails, laced with bamboo forests and majestic waterfalls, offered a new perspective on the otherwise less untouched world.

scaling the summits kyanjin ri and tserko ri

The highlight of my pilgrimage was undoubtedly the ascent of Kyanjin Ri and Tserko Ri. Standing nearly and over 5000 meters above sea level, these peaks provided a panoramic view of the Langtang range, an etched sight in my memory. The climb was arduous, yet every moment of exertion was worth the breathtaking vistas. The sense of accomplishment was palpable for me - one friend, a guide and two porters who were indispensable companions on this journey.

my daily ritual

A unique aspect of my pilgrimage was my daily dose of 40g of ceremonial cacao. This sacred plant, revered for centuries, catalysed mindfulness and focus. Each morning, as I prepared for the day's trek, the cacao ritual offered a moment of reflection and connection. It was a physical stimulant and a spiritual accelerator, enhancing my awareness and appreciation of the natural beauty around me.

the descent a test of endurance

One of the most challenging parts of the journey was the Descent. Covering 35 kilometres in a single day was a feat that tested the limits of my endurance. It was a relentless journey, but the unyielding support of my guide and porters, coupled with the serene beauty of the valley, made every step worthwhile.

finding my secret to happiness

Throughout this pilgrimage, I experienced moments of profound clarity and joy. Amidst the rugged beauty of the Langtang Valley and the peaks beyond, I discovered my secret to happiness. It was a realisation that emerged from the combination of physical challenge, spiritual nourishment through ceremonial cacao, and the unparalleled beauty of nature.

There is one more secret that I will keep and cherish forever and not tell anyone.

a call to the seekers

My journey in Nepal was more than just a physical trek; it was a voyage of self-discovery and spiritual awakening. For those who seek to uncover their secret to happiness, I extend an invitation to connect with me and explore the endless possibilities.

Whether through photography, travel, or a shared love for the great outdoors and cacao, a world of experiences awaits discovery.
